Pergola

Creating intimate social space within the city.

A black steel and white fabric pergola structure with built-in seating in an outdoor urban lot.

Pergola is a modular urban furniture system designed as part of the Traffic '19 Independent Study Group. Developed in steel and tile, the project creates an intimate social space within a larger public setting.

The design responds to climate, mobility and social interaction, using a modular system that can adapt to its surroundings. The completed structure was installed at Cafeina Cafe in San Diego.
